Guitar Masterpieces with Johnnie Basch (and special guest cellist Christine Zdunkiweicz),
Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 7pm
at the Music Exchange, 1537 Howe Ave., Sacramento, Free!
The Sacramento Saturday Music Club was founded in 1893 to promote music and culture in Sacramento. Since then, it has brought musicians such as Rachmaninoff and Andres Segovia to Sacramento. It remains one of the oldest musical organizations West of the Rockies. The Club is happy to announce the Season Finale of its 131st Season with virtuoso guitarist Johnnie Basch returning for a thrilling program.
Johnnie was one of the first classical guitarists accepted to the Oberlin Conservatory which he attended on a Dean’s Talent Award Scholarship. He’s had masterclasses with guitar luminaries such as Benjamin Verdery, and multi-Grammy winner Sharon Isbin. He later taught for Nevada School of the Arts, and has performed around the country, including the Summerlin Performing Arts Center in Las Vegas and Scottish Rite Center in Fair Oaks. Johnnie will perform solo works by Weiss, Guiliani, Tarrega, and Piazzolla.
Johnnie will then be joined by Chris Z. for an arrangement of Piazzolla’s Café 1930 and the duo “Liviana” by Alain Miteran. Chris is the principal cellist for Camellia Symphony, musical director for the Davis Chamber Players, and regularly performs with symphonies and ensembles in Northern California, including Folsom Lake and Auburn Symphonies, and numerous Music at Noon concerts at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Complimentary refreshments provided after the show.
